  • Creativity in Visual and Performing Arts Award

    Visual and Performing Arts at Carondelet inspire students to use art as a means to react, respond, and connect both intellectually and emotionally to the world in which we live. To recognize the power, value, and importance of art in the human experience, incoming students with superior talent and creativity in the areas of music, dance, theatre arts, or visual arts can apply to receive this award.
  • Requirements:

  • 1. Completed admissions application on file.

    2. Complete award application by February 9.

    3. Students will be asked to attend an in-person audition (dance, music, or theatre) or portfolio review (visual arts) in late February. Scheduling details about this audition/portfolio review will be emailed to all candidates after the February 9 deadline.

    Students may audition in only one area. If they are interested in two (or more) disciplines, they should select the one that best showcases their artistic strengths at this time.

    Dance audition requirements:

    • Prepare two pieces (maximum 30 seconds per piece) in contrasting styles (hip hop, jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, musical theatre, etc.)
    • Music should be prepared on your device and be able to be played via bluetooth speaker
    • Proper dance footwear and attire are required
    • No props allowed

    Music - instrumental or vocal audition requirements:

    • Prepare two pieces in contrasting styles (the entire piece may not be heard)
    • You will have access to a piano, music stand, and bluetooth speaker
    • Instruments other than a piano will need to be supplied by the student
    • If desired, students may use an accompaniment track. This should be loaded on your device and be able to be played via bluetooth speaker
    • Memorization is preferred, but not mandatory. If using sheet music, only legal copies are allowed (no photocopies)

    Theatre audition requirements:

    • Prepare two 30-second - 1-minute memorized monologues in contrasting styles
    • No props or costumes

    Visual Art portfolio review requirements:

    • Using any medium or media, explore something usually overlooked within your daily environment. Choose one object, location, or activity. Interpret your discovery in an original piece. Support your artwork with a short description detailing your process and the significance of the subject.
    • In addition to the prompt, you should bring 5 works that you have created within the last 18 months. 2D and 3D pieces are allowed (if 3D objects are difficult to transport, digital photos will be allowed)

    4. Award recipients commit themselves to taking 25 units (two and a half years) in their discipline of visual and performing arts throughout their coursework at Carondelet. Award recipients will meet with the Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair during their tenure at Carondelet to help determine the most appropriate path to fulfill their unit requirement.
